Hello
I'm Trying to generate a timetable for ages without success. I've got something around 360 activities and I'm almost done with it (337 Activities)
I've been trying lots of stuff by myself but I'm running out of time... The due time is tomorrow.
Can anybody help me?

There are two versions of my timetable attached. The first one is very well organized, but placed 322 activities. The second one got 337 activities

Thanks a Lot

Because you need to hurry, i wasn't able to check detailed so quick. maybe help be a bit:

about activity:
No: 338, Id: 418, Teachers: Cátia Borges, Subject: Inglês, Activity tags: , Students: 331, 332, 335

Is there a way to do it easier for this activity?
So i mean decrease number of available times for that teacher. Increase number of gaps of that (or a  few other teeachers).
Chnage the room or something like that.

i will have a closer look now.

Volker Dirr

ok. i can see one problem. but i don't know if that is the only one, because i done a small fix and i am able to place 347 activities after 2 minutes.

the problem is similar to this one:

Thanks a lot dude
I had seen your answer to that topic and was already trying that
xD
on the (xx) file it worked. But it got me a crappy timetable
On the other one, it's stuck at 315 for 5 minutes now

If it doesn't work I'll try to change Catia's Activity

Looks like that is your problem is about splitting activities.
I can't tell you how to fix it best, because i don't know your exact needs. You need to think about what is more needed: min n day, free day, min/max hours per day.
You timetable solve after 5 minutes if you delete all min n day constraints.
Of course that is not perfect.
You must think about how you want to splt the activities correct.
So if a teacher should come only 1 day, then you shouldn't give him a splitted activity into 3 parts. only one part with duration 3 should be the best solution!
Do it similar to the other teachers which have only 2 or 3 working days. (So split their activities into max 2 or 3 parts and don't forget to increase the duration)

Last year I tried generating a timetable with fet without splitting activities, but when I started splittig activities, I got real close to finishing my timetable.
This Year I tried the same... Looks like I was wrong =(
So... I've got to start my data imput all over again?

dotosouza

ohh...
And the good timetable (the one called tudo limpo) Is still stuck at 321. I've already deactivated the consecutive if same day option =(

Volker Dirr

Not all. I checked your data some more.
It looks like in your dataset all "2 activities are consecutive" constraints are "bad".
In your example it is much better if you don't split the activity and increse the duration. Then the activities are consucutive and you won't get the problem you have got now.

Volker Dirr

Difficult to say how to do it fast.
I don't know your dataset perfect. Maybe the fastes to change it is to:
- export the dataset to csv
- delete all activities (not in csv, i mean in fet)
- open the activites.csv file with an editor.
- check all "split duration" fields. If you see "1+1+1", but that is a teacher with only 2 working days, then change it into "2+1". If it is a teacher with 1 working day, change it into "3".
- if you see "1+1+1+1" but it should be consecutive 2 times, then change into "2+2"
- save the file and import it.

But maybe gui is more "save" if you have many other activities constraints. Because deleting the activities means also deleteing all related constraints.

dotosouza

humm.. ok

but if I put them together, will fet still be able to finish the timetable?

I'll try the csv now

dotosouza

Which edditor should I use?
Already downloaded 2 but they don't recognise stuff like this á, ã, õ

Got It... Forget I asked =/

Is that what I'm supposed to get?

It doesn't seem to be able to place the activities when there is a break

Volker Dirr

oh, sorry. i wasn't aware you want to set over a break. You are right, if you incease duration it will never set over a break. (for my school that is an advantage, but it looks like it isn't for yours).
in that case only delete min n day constraints if you use consecutive constraints.

of course i can't promise now it will work. but it work without all min n days. so i hope there are no other problems included. (i checked your timetable only a few minutes, you have much more experience with it then me.)

please decide if you need over break or not and proceed as i suggested. let me know if it still stuck, i will help searching more problems if you sent me latest file again. (but not now, i must sleep now and fo to work tomorrow morning. so i can help in the evening again.)

dotosouza

Amost done
I had to remove all the breaks
