Hello!

Please let me know if you know data recovery GNU GPL (or other free software license) software. Like for instance to recover a corrupted MS Word file. Somebody asked me this.

I am interested also in freeware or other useful things, preferably for GNU/Linux.

Bobby Wise

Ultimate Boot CD is what I use for anything recovery related.

"Repair Word file free" may help: you need to download the second file in following page
http://www.repairwordfiles.com/

I've found it's suggestion here
http://www.fileguru.com/Repair-Word-File-Free/info

It seems to be able to extract text data from corrupted file (so, if the file contains images, the problem may be unresolved)

Other software I can suggest has been reviewed here:

and here
http://www.chiccheinformatiche.com/recuperare-documenti-microsoft-office-e-open-office-danneggiati-coffice2txt/#more-2101

it's coffice2txt, the third title in following page
http://godskingsandheroes.info/software/
together other softwares to be explored

I'm not sure that these softwares are GNU GPL.
