I've just discovered FET and started using it to create a (rather complicated) middle and high school timetable. I'm using one of the suggestions I found on this forum, preparing a csv file in advance to upload with individual students figuring as subgroups, and it's been working really well.

Thanks to Liviu Lalescu and Yush Yuen (I'm using the Mac Intel version) for your work on this extremely useful and functional software!

Thank you for your feedback! I am not sure, is your file complete, or you only just began working on it? If it is complete, please consider sending it for testing or for inclusion into FET examples.

Darren McDonald

The file is not yet complete (but very close, we're just adding "desirable" constraints to see if improved timetables are possible), but the inclusion of student names (and our school's privacy policy) prevent me from sharing the resulting file. Otherwise I would have been happy to make the example file available to others.

Again, thanks for this incredibly useful software!

Thank you for your kind words!

About the file, maybe you could rename the students to generic names, with a script or something. It is not very critical to have many files now, but any file is a good test for future changes of FET or for testing the present FET. Or you could send it to me by email, so I can do private testing, but I can only promise to keep it private, I cannot bet my life this will happen if somebody hacks my computer :)

Also, I have another important request, not for you personally, but maybe you can spread the word, if you appreciate this software: it is very hard to live out of free software. To sustain the past work on this project and the future work on projects which I also want to make free software, I really need some form of financial support.

Once I've finished the file I'll see about replacing the names with "student 1", etc., and send it to you.

I'll also be happy to recommend the software at the school (and I'll also be happy to enquire about a school donation to your excellent software)!

You may want to consider listing (the Mac version) of FET on http://www.macupdate.com, which would greatly increase your software's visibility among Mac users.
